This oven is a huge improvement over conventional toaster ovens if that's what you've been using to bake polymer clay.In fact, I bet a lot of people who've had unsatisfactory or disappointing results from polymer clay would have much better success using this oven.First, it doesn't get hot enough to create toxic fumes from the clay.It preheats very quickly, unlike conventional toaster ovens, which waste a lot of energy.I'm very satisfied with this item, and the Amaco bead rack fits inside perfectly.Since I got this just before Christmas, my work has improved tremendously, and I'm getting effects I've been trying to achieve for ten years.Love it.

Sunbeam 6277 4-Slice Toaster with Cancel Button, White Review

Sunbeam 6277 4-Slice Toaster with Cancel Button, White

After disappointing results over the years with a number of fancy toasters that just didn't toast, I finally decided to try this inexpensive but highly rated Sunbeam. The 4-slice model that I bought has two separate sets of controls, rather than a pair of oversize slots as some 4-slice toasters do. This is a great design feature when two people like different doneness. Toasting fairly rapid, and the results have been spot on--no need to "retoast". The recommendation is a 12" clearance above the toaster to avoid heat damage to cabinets, but the Sunbeam is extremely light weight, despite its bulky appearance, so it's easy to move away from hanging cabinets, if necessary. The Sunbeam 4-slice was a good choice, and I'm very happy with it.

KitchenAid KMTT400 Toaster, 4 Slice Review

KitchenAid KMTT400 Toaster, 4 Slice
Average Reviews:

Note: I was not able to change the rating from my first review which was based on a defective toaster. The new rating should be 5 stars. We've discovered the best bagel toaster ever!

In my first review I said I'd be back when KitchenAide sent a replacement toaster. Not only did the one I ordered from Amazon not toast, the stainless steel stained with fingerprints and smudges of all things. That was three weeks ago. The replacement came last week, and I'm quite satisfied with the new one. It does not retained smudges and fingerprints and, more important, it toasts just fine. I especially like the way it handles bagels -- crisp on the outside, toasted on the inside.

It still has a minor "problem" with English muffins which I don't understand, and buyers note that you have to use the "bagel setting: to toast English muffins. Still, they need a higher setting, perhaps because they're thinner than bagels and regularly sliced bread.

Why not 5 stars? Because it takes so long to toast anything, or seemingly so. Up to two minutes for some breads, not that I don't have two minutes to spare in my lifetime, but timing eggs and other breakfast items so that the toast is ready at the same time will take some getting used to.

How soon we forget: I can't remember how long it took to toast in a toaster over, so this may be unfair to KitchenAide. In fact, I'll go 4.5 stars because on top of the design (classic rather than full of gadgets - I half expected another timer and clock to be in the kitchen), it has really good stainless steel AND the sides remain cool even while toasting. Yep, 4.5 stars. What would it take for 5 stars? I miss the old "Ping!" when toast popped up on our last toaster. That was 35 years ago, so maybe that was my imagination.

One last and very important note: We did not return this toaster to Amazon. We wanted a toaster, so we called KitchAide, and KitchenAide deserves a 5 in customer relations. They sent a new toaster and a prepaid UPS return label. There were no questions, no third degree. Just good old-fashioned customer relations, and I do mean OLD-fashioned. (P.S. I rate very few companies for that kind of customer relations: the "new" Dell; Amazon; and now KitckenAide.)

Fox Run 13-Inch Pizza Stone Review

Fox Run 13 inch Pizza Stone
Average Reviews:

We purchased this stone to use with our Breville toaster over.It is a perfect fit and it works much better than the pizza pan that comes with the unit. This is not a knock on the pizza pan, but a stone is able to pull the extra moisture out of whatever is being baked on it.

This comes to my next comment -- do not manually season the pizza stone (such as with olive oil, etc).Doing so seals up the pores of the stone and prevents it from doing what it is supposed to do: suck out moisture. If you do that, your pizza crust will not be a crisp as expected.

Over time the pizza stone will naturally season itself. However, the best way to use this is to sprinkle some flour on the pizza stone before using (like the way pizza parlors do).

When we use this pizza stone, we put it in the oven to preheat along with the oven.Once the desired temperature is achieved, we then place the pizza (frozen or fresh) on it while the stone is still in the oven.

Deluxe Breadmaker Review

Deluxe Breadmaker
Average Reviews:

1. It is easy to use. it does most of the work for you. The main thing is, follow the directions. Use exact amounts, IE measure with the correct containers, and you can't go wrong.
2.The bread comes out great. No chemicals or preservatives. Super home-made healthy taste you will notice. But note this: the bread is often not as sweet as store bread. It tastes a little different, so don't expect the exact same taste as you get in the store. Whether you like the bread or not is a matter of taste. The bread it makes is healthy and a little less sweet and more fresh.
3.the biggest loaf I reccomend it 1.5 lbs and not 2lbsdespite the machine's advertised ability. I have not yet tried a 2lb loaf, but, the 1.5 lb loaf just about fills up the pan. Some jam recipes from sources other than this model's booklet can overflow the pan. Stick to 1.5 lb recipes as a max. The jam it makes is the "best jam I ever had".
4. cleaning takes 20 seconds.
5. saves money and prevents rip-offs.
6. Read the entire manual BEFORE you make any bread.
7.Takes some 3 hours to make a loaf.
8.Fresh bread with no chemicals, like the bread this machine makes, only stays good for about 3 days. Past that it will get stale. The breads with more starch (like whole wheat) will get stale faster as the starch crystallizes. A plastic bag tied off works better than a breadbox in staleness prevention.

So if you want healthy fresh bread, buy this beaut and you can't go wrong.

Cuisinart CSC-650 Slow Cooker Review

07:30, Posted by Frank K Page, No Comment

Cuisinart CSC-650 Slow Cooker
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I did quite a bit of research before purchasing this slow cooker.

America's Test Kitchen recommends West Bend Versatility slow cooker. It is a truly versatile model, but I didn't like its aluminum insert. As you may know, aluminum can be hazardous to health, so this slow cooker was scratched off my list pretty quickly.

The other models I looked at were All-Clad Stainless Steel Slow Cooker (available from William Sonoma only), Farberware Millennium (also recommended by America's Test Kitchen), Cuisinart CSC-650 and various Rival models ("various Rival models" has an interesting ring to it :) ).

All of the latest slow cookers are made in China, so I was somewhat concerned about the construction quality. One of the main reasons I picked Cuisinart model was a 3-year warranty, compared to just 1 year for the rest of the competition.

Another factor was the generally positive feedback from CSC-650 owners. Cooking.com is probably a better place to check for reviews, because they let you post a review only if you actually purchased that particular item from them.

I had this baby delivered to me about a week ago, and I put it to work right away. I must say I am satisfied with my purchase decision. Having said that, here's a list of things that I do and don't like about this machine...

Do Like:
--------
- 3-year warranty (1 year for every other slow cooker I researched)

- retractable cord (I wish every appliance had it!)

- cooks well (overall), and no, it doesn't burn food as some reviewers have indicated

- construction quality seems to be good, although it is impossible to say for sure until appliance is a couple of years old

Don't Like:
-----------
- stainless steel housing gets stained quite easily, should have been more fingerprint-resistant

- "Made in China": $99 is a premium price to pay for an item that was manufactured using cheap labor; manufacturers who reap huge profits from the North American market should invest into the local labor market

- cooks most things faster than recipies (even the ones included in Cuisinart booklet) indicate, so you have to keep an eye on your food to make sure it doesn't overcook

After purchasing the slow cooker, I headed straight to the local bookstore to pick up a recipe book. I skimmed through about 6-7 titles, and ended up buying Not Your Mother's Slow Cooker Cookbook by Beth Hensperger and Julie Kaufmann. Most of its recipies are made from scratch and rarely use any canned ingridients. It also seems to have the best overall collection of recipies.

Yesterday, I had a few friends over and we had ourselves a feast. I cooked quite a few things in the slow cooker:

- Lamb Goulash (which was ruined/overcooked - the first thing I ever done in this slow cooker)

- Chicken Casseatore (not sure about spelling, it's from the Cuisinart booklet) came out nicely, it was around the time that I started looking closely after the cooking process.

- Short Ribs In Red Wine were perfect, here, again, the cooking time was 5 hours instead of 7 hours indicated in the recipe.

Overall, I am happy. I didn't experience any of the problems reported by some reviewers. I can safely recommend this appliance.
